Privacy Policy

WOOF is made by Hugo Software. This policy explains exactly what the app does with your data. The short version: the app has no account, collects nothing about you, and never uploads your audio.
The microphone
WOOF's only sensor is the microphone. When you tap Listen, the app opens the microphone and measures the incoming sound about 50 times a second — loudness, zero-crossing rate, spectral centre and eight frequency bands.
- The audio exists only in the device's memory, during the reading.
- It is never written to a file, never saved to your gallery or storage, and never sent anywhere.
- When the reading ends, the audio is discarded. There is no recording to recover, for you or for us.
What survives a reading is a handful of numbers: duration, burst count, pitch centre, pitch slope, roughness and peak level — plus the matched mood and a confidence percentage.
What is stored, and where
Only on your own device, and only if you choose to save it:
| What | When it is stored |
|---|---|
| Saved readings (mood, confidence, the six numbers, timestamp) | Only when you tap "Save to journal" |
| Dog profiles (name, breed, age, chosen illustration) | Only what you type in yourself |
| Language and light/dark preference | When you change it |
This data lives in the app's own local storage on your device. It is never uploaded. We cannot see it, and we have no server that holds it.
What we do not do
- No account. No sign-up, no login, no email address, no password.
- No analytics. No Firebase, no Google Analytics, no attribution or measurement SDK.
- No advertising. No ad SDK, no ad identifier, no ad network.
- No crash reporting SDK.
- No tracking. We do not build a profile of you and we do not share, sell or transfer personal data, because we do not hold any.
When the app uses the internet
WOOF works offline. It contacts the network in only two situations:
- Google Play Billing — when you start the free trial, subscribe, or restore a purchase. Google handles the payment; we never see your card details. Google's own privacy policy governs that transaction.
- Remote configuration — a small settings file is fetched from
hq.bnj.appso display defaults can be adjusted without an app update. It sends no personal data; like any web request, the server sees the ordinary IP address it came from.
Neither of these ever carries audio or anything from your journal.
Permissions
- Microphone (
RECORD_AUDIO) — required. It is how the app works. You can refuse it, and you can withdraw it at any time in Android Settings › Apps › WOOF › Permissions. Without it the app cannot take a reading, and it will say so rather than invent one. - Internet (
INTERNET) — used only for the two purposes listed above.
Your rights and your control
Because nothing leaves your device, you are already in full control:
- Delete a reading: clear the journal inside the app.
- Delete everything: Settings › Reset app, or simply uninstall WOOF. Both erase all stored data permanently.
- We hold no copy, so there is nothing for us to return, correct or delete on your behalf. See the data removal page for details.
Children
WOOF is not directed at children and we knowingly collect no data from anyone, of any age.
Not advice
WOOF is for entertainment only. It reads the characteristics of a sound; it is not a scientific translation, and dogs do not have a language that can be translated. Never use WOOF for veterinary, medical or behavioural decisions. If you are worried about an animal, speak to a vet.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
